Why They Give to Children’s Miracle Network

Jim Barnes

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? This is my first year as a Miracle Agent. When given the opportunity, it sounded like a good idea to have a chance to give back to the community.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? As a Realtor®, my mindset is to help people. We assist our clients with the biggest financial decisions of their life. When your work revolves around helping people, you have to ask yourself “what else can I do for my community?”

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? The money comes right out of your check so you’ll never miss it. You never have to think about sitting down to write a check. At the end of the year, you’ll see how much you donated. Because it comes out in small increments, it probably ends up that you’ve donated more than you might have if you were writing a one-time check.

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? We haven’t shared our partnership with CMN much, but we feel good knowing we’re able to give back and make an impact.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I’ve been a Miracle Agent for one year.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? I give to Children's Miracle Network because giving back and helping people is important to me. I got into this business because I love working with people and seeing the joy it brings to families to get the keys to their new home.  By donating to Children’s Miracle Network, I am able to help and support families in even more ways than I ever thought possible.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? I get to wake up every morning knowing that not only am I helping families that I work directly with, I am helping some of the 10 million families that visit CMN hospitals a year. I love knowing that I am a Miracle Agent who supports such an amazing cause.

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? One of my favorite moments was when I was talking to a family about being a Miracle Agent and I instantly saw the look on their faces change. They shared a story about a member of their family that was helped by CMN when they were in need. They were honored to use me as their agent knowing they would be giving back to an organization that gave so much to their own family.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I have been a Miracle agent for at least 3 years.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? I signed up for CMN to have a platform to give back. Of course, RE/MAX is also another big reason, as we have strength in numbers. I like the fact we are helping children.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? Do It! A Miracle Agent shows you’re connected to your community; you give back, you help others. It’s a great way to send a thank you card (Honor Card) after a transaction. Once you see the families and children you assist, you won’t say no. For as little as $25 you can be involved with a great cause. Add a Miracle sign rider to your listing and explain how each home is a Miracle home!

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? Several moments have been key: At R4 watching the presentation for CMN and the Ice Cream social. Explaining to prospective clients about CMN and how they are affiliated with two regional hospitals in the Bay Area where our children are sent when our local hospital can't meet the needs of the patient.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I was one of the first in our office to Join. I think in 2015.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? I give to the Children’s Miracle Network because I have a personal connection. I was born with a congenital heart defect and have had 3 heart surgeries since. I am a huge believer of giving back and this is a fantastic venue to do so.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? What would I say... it’s an honor to be part of such an incredible give back. Being a miracle agent touches not only the children but your clients when they receive a letter from CMN that they too have helped to make a miracle! Such an easy and painless process for a great cause!

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? Special moments...my clients so appreciate the cards they receive and love being part of the cause. It’s a reason to continue the conversation after the deal closes. Also, I felt honored to meet one of the Miracle Children at the last RE/MAX R4 convention in Las Vegas!  Touching stories every year!

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I’ve been with RE/MAX Gold for 12 years and started donating years ago. Honestly, I’m not sure what year! Maybe 4-6 years ago.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? I love children! Prior to becoming a full-time real estate professional, I was a licensed daycare provider for 7 years with over 14 children on my roster! I love helping families and children.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? I have told people that signing up is easy, painless and so fulfilling—why wouldn’t you sign up?!

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? My special moments happen while attending the R4 events! I love seeing the children in person watching their energy and listening to their personal stories! I have a hard time going to the hospitals to see the children; it would break my heart too much, so I do what I can I donate a small amount of money out of every check. I always visit the booths and CMN auction during R4.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I think about 2 years now.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? I love giving to charities, it feels great. If everyone gave a little in this world then there would be less people with nothing. I love children, as well as animals, so I also donate monthly to the humane society and WWF (World Wildlife Fund).

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? They can sign up with just $25 per transaction, so it’s doable, I think, for most agents (especially RE/MAX agents since we are the best)! They might have been like me before I started, wondering exactly how much of that $25 goes to CMN—and the answer is it all does!

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? Not yet, as I've had my hands full with our new 3 month old daughter, but I plan to call CMN as they said they will show anyone around UC Davis to show exactly where the donations are going.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I have been a miracle agent for 3 years now, and we give to CMN after learning of all the good it does for kids and their families.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? We lost a 4 year old son suddenly, due to an accident. If there is anyway that we can keep another family from going through that trauma, then we are all in.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? I encourage other agents in my company by telling them that you never even miss the money; it comes out gradually as you close escrow and that it's such a worth while cause.

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? I love being a part of the balloon crew every year at the Cops and Rodders car show in Cameron Park.  We drop the rubber duckies that we have sold from the balloon to a target below.  The duck closest wins a donated 2 night stay in Tahoe and all proceeds go to the Children's Miracle network.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent? I have been auto-deducting from each commission check for the past three years. I contributed years before that sporadically, but not sure how long.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network? My son had two open heart surgeries, one at UCD Children's Hospital when he was 16 years old.  The doctors, nurses and staff were incredible.  I want to support their good work. Also, I work primarily in Davis, CA which is affiliated with the University and the Hospital.  I am proud to be a supporter of such an incredible community and organization.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent? Do it!  You won't miss the money and it makes a difference to those who benefit.

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent? Every time I see my commission statement with the funds taken out, it actually makes me happy.  It's the least I can do.

How long have you been a Miracle Agent?

Gosh, it must be years now! My guess is 4 years.

Why do you give to Children's Miracle Network?

CMN is the blessing you need at a time when you need it most. I don't have kids yet, but I pray I never will need anything like CMN. If that fateful day does come, and my world is shattered for any number of real life health reasons with a future child, I would hope there was something like CMN to help us at a time when we need it most. Life can throw a lot at us, especially at less than opportune times, and when that time comes the main focus is family. CMN allows family and health to be the focus, not money, and that's what I believe in to my core.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of signing up to become a Miracle Agent?

Do it! In life, money comes and goes, and seldom does a dollar spent really mean anything or create great change in the world. Giving to CMN means putting your dollars to work lifting the stress and pain of a financial woe, due to a child suffering, off of someone's shoulders. To me, that's exactly what I would love for every dollar to do.

Are there any special moments you've experienced with CMN or as a Miracle Agent?

Not yet, but for me it's not about the moments that could be—It's about the spirit; the spirit of giving to those in need. The spirit that warms their souls when times are hard. The spirit of making moments for them, their families and their children. If I never had a moment in my life, it would still be worth it knowing that I lifted someone's spirits. It lifts my spirit to know I brought just a little dash of peace and love into the world. With that peace of mind, I have been able to make a moment last and last with each donation.
